(WebDesk) - The newly appointed minister of Information and culture has been landing in hot waters after being entangled in controversies one after another. Since the day he has taken oath as the Minister of Information and Culture in Punjab Cabinet, he is being ostensibly criticized over his foul language, obscene remarks, wacky orders and illogical allegations not only against journalists, media persons but artists and members of civil society. 

Interestingly, he after every controversy within hours tenders apology and continues to adhere to his habitual coarseness of using foul language.

Here are the controversies Information Minister of Punjab Fayyazul Hassan Chauhan has stirred since he has taken the charge of his portfolio:

Tussle with media and anchor persons over defending use of helicopter and heavy protocol

Newly appointed Information minister Fayaz ul Hasssan Chauhan right after taking oath have started giving appearances on media talk shows and soon when the anchor persons asked them some tough questions and he failed to give them satisfactory answers, he soon lost his cool and faced harsh criticism from almost every other anchorperson on very channel he appeared to spoke for a good press for the government of Punjab. On the other hand, he after the debacle grew more bad press against him after he took to the twitter and termed them the puppets of former government and their stooges.

Using foul language against Journalist and other media persons

Another disaster to hit the provincial government is the use of abusive language by the Information Minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan during a TV interview. The minister was asked some ‘tough questions’ by the anchor person that angered Chohan and he lost his temperament. 

He then hurled abuses and stood up. While leaving, he was recorded in an off-the-record video, saying ‘you guys should be ashamed of, is this the way? Slamming them with some obscene remarks’

President, Punjab Union Of Journalists Naeem Hanif in response to the derogatory remarks of Information Minister Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan habitual use of foul and indecent comments, has demanded his removal.

Deriding the entertainment and the culture of the industry

Punjab Information and Culture Minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan while criticizing the explicit and illicit content in films, with a very poor choice of words commented some derogatory, inappropriate and indecent remarks against film and stage actors at a public forum.

People from all walks of life chided the minister for his below-the-belt remarks against film and theatre actors.

He said about the removal of ‘vulgar and indecent film signboards inside and outside the cinema halls’, the minister said pictures of `half-naked’ women were displayed inside and outside cinema houses. For that`purpose’, he said, people go and watch porn.

Later Punjab Information and Culture Minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan went on with orders to put a province-wide ban on "vulgar" and "indecent" film posters displayed inside and outside cinema houses.

According to an official notification shared on his Twitter account, Chohan has ordered that "necessary action be taken for the removal of vulgar/indecent film signboards under Indecent Advertisement Probation Act 1993 and Punjab Motion Picture Ordinance 1979".

The terms "vulgar" and "indecent" have not been elaborated upon in the notification, and it remains to be seen how the culture minister will choose to define them for official purposes.

Apparently referring to the measures taken today, he promised that: "if any vulgar poster goes up in or outside a cinema house in Punjab, there will first be a fine and if they continue the practice, the cinema would be shut down."

Obscene Remarks against Female Theatre and Film Artists

After his much chided ‘vulgarity’ explanation in cinema houses, the minister turned to theatre industry and grilled over the theatre artists.

In same video message during a public gathering, the newly-elected minister made misogynistic remarks about the female artist stating that ‘if he had the authority, he would have made Nargis offer Hajj and keep as much as 300 fasts a year’. He specifically taken the name of the female artists derided them. The footage of the minister’s speech went viral on social and electronic media.

Actress Megha and Nargis delivered a sharp rebuke over his below the belt comments. The controversy has taken the social media by storm and minister received strong reprindmant over his ridiculous remarks and foul language.

Later, Punjab Information Minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan tendered an apology for his derogatory remarks about female artistes and news channels.


Allege a senior female journalist to ask him a planted question

Most recently, Information minister has appeared in a TV show with a senior female anchor, she has given him tough time with some hard-hitting questions, he well managed to answer. Later, he took to the twitter to allegedly taint the anchorperson with some other bad choice of remarks from his personal account.

On the other hand, from the official twitter of government of Punjab, same clip was posted with remarks accusing the anchorperson for planted questions against him. Later, the tweet has been deleted.

The anchorperson reacted and took to the twitter to express her anger and posted the screen shots.

Once again, an apology has been posted from recently created official twitter account of Government of Punjab.


Senior Minister instead of taking action, pampered him with ‘Achay Dil Ka’ remarks

Punjab Senior Minister Aleem Khan after the latest controversy of foul language and indecent comments of Information minister Punjab reacted and extended apology to the public, saying, “Chohan is a new minister, he will learn soon”.

On the other hand, Federal Information Minister and broadcasting when asked to comment on Punjab information minister recently created havoc, he said Fayyazul Hassan chauhan should not use such language but he is a man of good heart.
